Services Provided by STLS

Administration

STLS can assist and advise member library staff and trustees on all aspects of library management, including legal issues, regulations and standards; annual reports; construction projects; grants; programming and current technologies.
Adult Services Member libraries are able to receive assistance with adult programming, services and material selection.
Delivery Service STLS delivers library materials and communications to each STLS member at least once a week and to correctional facilities and selected adult care facilities by prior arrangement.
Information Technology Each member library has access to STARCat, an online regional database of materials owned by member libraries, through the Southern Tier Automated Network.
Interlibrary Loan Library patrons may request materials not owned by their local libraries from other STLS member libraries and other libraries throughout the nation.
Outreach Services STLS provides library service for persons who are educationally disadvantaged, with physical or mental disabilities, or who are unemployed and in need of job placement assistance, or who live in an area underserved by a library, or who are blind, physically handicapped, aged or confined in institutions.
Reference Services Steele Memorial Library reference librarians will answer ready reference questions via their "e-desk."
Rotating Collections Rotating collections of large print books, audio books, videos, adult popular reading books, and youth books are available for loan to libraries and residential facilities.  These collections are intended to supplement libraries' own collections of materials.
Technical Services STLS staff catalog and process all formats of library materials and maintain bibliographic integrity of regional catalog.
Youth Services Member libraries are able to receive assistance with youth programming, services and material selection.
