Glass Library has alligators, too
Glass artist and Reference Librarian Beth Hylen (left) of The Rakow
Research Library at The Corning Museum of Glass joined the Children's
Department on Tuesday, March 11 in presenting "Explore the Magical World
of Glassblowing." (Right) Southeast Steuben County Library
Children's Services Coordinator Sue McConnell led the craft portion of
the program.
The event was a big hit with the many children and caregivers who
attended. Hylen explained a little bit about glassblowing and read,
Glassigator, by Dan Dailey and Allison Dailey, the newest children’s
book about glassblowing. CMoG supplied the hand-blown glass alligator,
which was inspired by the book. It was displayed along with other blown,
slumped, fused or lampworked glass items.
Then, Miss Sue led the group in making "stained glass windows" with
kid-safe, non-glass materials.
