Britannica.com Full text encyclopedia articles are no longer free. You get part of the first paragraph and an invitation to subscribe. Still free are the full text periodical articles from more than 70 magazines and newspapers--including Newsweek, Discover, The Economist, Library Journal, and the Christian Science Monitor; and news from the New York Times and Reuters. Their guide to the Web's best sites includes more than 125,000 sites, many of them rated.
Britannica Concise "A rich source of answers to questions about the full range of human knowledge, with more than 25,000 alphabetical entries, covering the arts, business, computers, geography, history, literature, medicine, philosophy, politics and popular culture." A free alternative to the now fee-based online Encyclopedia Britannica, albeit with shorter entries. Entries and illustrations are arranged alphabetically. Full-text searching is also available.
Columbia Encyclopedia The sixth edition (2001) of this well-known one-volume desk encyclopedia. This online version is searchable as well as browsable. Contains brief entries with keywords hyperlinked to related entries. From Bartleby.com.
Encarta Microsoft's free encyclopedia with almost 40,000 articles and more than 12,000 photos, illustrations, maps, charts, and tables. In addition, you get their World English Dictionary and Online Atlas.
Home Improvement Encyclopedia This online resource for home repair and improvement has five sections: Plumbing, Wiring, Carpentry, Decks and Masonry/Concrete.  In addition, there are Project Calculators, a Tool Encyclopedia, and a Glossary. Searchable.
Junior Edition Subscription resource: Log-in with your library card. Designed for students in junior high and middle school, with magazines, newspapers and reference books for information on current events, the arts, science, popular culture, health, people, government, history, sports and more. Legal Encyclopedia This site has legal information in non-legal language. There are annotated lists of recommended Internet resources for each subject. Great content from Nolo Press, a major publisher of self-help law books.
Medical Encyclopedia "The adam Health Illustrated Encyclopedia includes over 4,000 articles about diseases, tests, symptoms, injuries, and surgeries. It also contains an extensive library of medical photographs and illustrations."
Searchasaurus Subscription resource: Log-in with your library card.  Designed for the elementary school student, Searchasaurus provides full text from over 50 children's magazines and over 100 pamphlets.  A general encyclopedia and an encyclopedia of animals are also available.  Also available in a non-graphical version via Primary Search.
