Centers for Disease Control & Prevention Enormous fount of information on health and diseases, including Health Topics A to Z; Hoaxes & Rumors; and Traveler's Health.  The CDC is an agency of the U.S. Public Health Service, in the Department of Health and Human Services.
DrugDigest "A noncommercial, evidence-based, consumer health and drug information site dedicated to empowering consumers to make informed choices about drugs and treatment options."
healthfinder A gateway to consumer health information from the government agencies and non-profit organizations that produce reliable health information for the public. There is a section for children, and it is also available in Spanish.
HealthInfoQuest An excellent training resource for both librarians and patrons. Pathfinders and practice questions lead the user through the research process by choosing appropriate online sources and demonstrating search strategies.
Health Reference Center Subscription resource: Log-in with your library card.  Use this database to find articles on fitness, pregnancy, medicine, nutrition, diseases, public health, occupational health & safety, alcohol & drug abuse, HMOs, prescription drugs, etc.  Click here for a title list.  A NOVEL database provided by the NY State Library through LSTA funding. 
KidsHealth "KidsHealth has separate areas for kids, teens, and parents - each with its own design, age-appropriate content, and tone. There are literally thousands of in-depth features, articles, animations, games, and resources - all original and all developed by experts in the health of children and teens."
MayoClinic.com Well-written and easy-to-understand information on health and medical topics.
Medem Medical Library "Health care information from the nation's medical societies."  All of the consumer health information here is from peer-reviewed sources.
MEDLINEplus "A goldmine of good health information from the world's largest medical library, the National Library of Medicine.  MEDLINEplus has extensive information from the National Institutes of Health and other trusted sources on over 500 diseases and conditions. There are also lists of hospitals and physicians, a medical encyclopedia and dictionaries, health information in Spanish, extensive information on prescription and nonprescription drugs, health information from the media, and links to thousands of clinical trials."  Also check out the Interactive Health Education Resources
National Institutes of Health Searchable directory of health topics from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
NOAH: New York Online Access to Health This searchable directory provides access to "full-text health information for consumers that is accurate, timely, relevant and unbiased." Sites are selected by librarians and health professionals. Available in English and Spanish.
OncoLink Comprehensive resources for dealing with cancer, including a cancer FAQ and advice for coping. The place to start when researching this topic.
WholeHealthMD: The New Approach to Healing This searchable site's focus is combining the best of conventional medicine with alternative therapies to help the body strengthen and then heal itself.
