Secrets In The Dark

by Justin Mathews

Here in the long and dreary corridor
The fluorescent light buzzes yellow
I stand here at the end
Seeing the light fade into darkness
And tonight I wonder
What lies there in the shadow
What secrets are yet to be unlocked
The darkness overtakes me
A surge of emotion
This overwhelming sensation of gloom
The truth of what lies there in the unseen place
May seem only a light switch away
But I press the up arrow and wait
Both from fear
And respect that these unmanifested secrets
Shall dwell in the darkness
