That's why, in addition to our youth fiction collection that includes graphic novels, we host a number of youth groups and activities. Our Anime-Manga Club gets together once-a-month to discuss the latest releases in books and films and to share insights with others interested in the genre. The club has also screened anime movies, participated in a Corning-Painted Post Area School District cultural & foods festival, and club members have created their own anime art.
The Teen Friends group is modeled after the Friends of the Library SSC. Teen Friends volunteer time to assist in making Library programs work. Teen Friends are an integral component of our Children's Summer Reading program, and members assist throughout the year in the Children's Department and elsewhere in the Library.

Our collection of newspapers is not indexed. If you request genealogical research assistance, we require that you have narrowed the approximate date of birth, marriage or death to within a two-week span. We will try our best to fulfill your request, time permitting. For nonprofit groups and individuals seeking grants funding, the Library has acquired Money Matters, located near the Reference Desk. Any member of the public seeking information on grants funding may use this resource. In addition to print publications from the Foundation Center, its online database may be accessed from computers in the Library only, using this link: The Foundation Center Directory Online. The Southeast Steuben County Library is now in the second year of a program to provide information and educational programs to relatives acting as parents, including grandparents acting as parents. This program has brought together experts, agency representatives and relatives-acting-as-parents for informative workshops and panel discussions. The Relatives-as-Parents Program is supported, in part, by funds from the Brookdale Foundation and a Southern Tier Library System COSAC grant. Circulation staff members handle many other tasks as well, including processing new library materials, rotating collections (with other STLS libraries) and audio-visual maintenance. Circulation Staff and Volunteers oversee the shelving and physical condition of the items housed at the Southeast Steuben County Library. The Children's computers are content filtered. Not all programs are installed on all computers, ask a Reference staff member if you are looking for the location of a specific program. The following programs are available:
We do have printing capabilities, all prints will be in black & white. There is no color printing available. Prints are .20¢ a page. Use of our computers is free of charge (other than printing). We offer time of one hour per day for general usage. If you require more time for work, school work or research, more time may be given if computers are available. Please ask a Reference Staff member if you have any questions about computers at the Library. We offer WiFi usage for your laptop FREE of charge! Bring your wireless capable laptop (802.11 b/g standards) and connect to the Internet from anywhere in the building. The Library does not offer a public wired (or cable-connection) hookup for laptops. We do not have a scanner for public use, nor do we have a public CD burner or re-writer.

There is a one-time minimum charge of $1.00 to purchase a refillable copy-card good for three copies (40 cents for the card + three copies). Copies are letter or legal size. Original documents may be enlarged or reduced in size. Our Public Fax service costs $1.00 per page. Please enquire at the Circulation Desk.

Steele Memorial Library keeps the Elmira Star Gazette on microfilm. We have one Microfilm/Microfiche reader available. Printed copies are 25 cents each. Time of use will be limited to one hour if other patrons are waiting.
(607) 936-3713 ext 501 The Library has two rooms available for public use. See the Circulation Department for information & reservations. The Laura Beer Community Room is our larger room and can hold up to 100 people. This room has audiovisual capabilities such as a theater-sized projection screen, DVD & VCR, 36' television set, wireless microphones and speakers throughout the entire room.
