Book Links: Connecting Books, Libraries and Classrooms
This magazine is designed for teachers, librarians, library media specialists, booksellers, parents, and all other adults interested in connecting children with great books.

Booklist
Online version of the periodical Booklist. Certain book reviews and articles are available.  Reviews can be found in archives and through site searches.

CLWG: Children's Literature Web Guide
The Children’s Literature Web Guide includes links to useful resources such as program ideas, award lists, and reviews.

School Library Journal Online
Online version of the periodical School Library Journal. While full text reviews are not available, reviews are indexed and selected articles are included. The site is searchable.


Recommended Literature for Kindergarten through Grade 12
An extensive searchable list of titles compiled by the California Department of Education working with a team of experts in the field of literature for children and adolescents. This can be searched by title, author, keyword, genre, and even culture.  

The Horn Book Magazine

Since the early 1920's, The Horn Book has "blowing the horn for fine books for boys and girls." The web companion to the magazine has feature articles, advice for authors and illustrators, and great bibliographies for parents and librarians.

Books: A Treasure
The official website of the NYS Summer Reading Program. Has great links for kids—including puzzles, games and booklists as well as links and ideas for library staff. 

Picture Book Index

As the site states, "finding picture books has never been easy." But, the Picture Book Index presented by the Columbus Metropolitan Library (Ohio) helps to make it easy! Search by topic to find picture books for programs.

Picture Book Index ( Miami University, Ohio)

Great planning resource. The abstracts of over 5,000 picture books in university library. Useful for parents, librarians and teachers to create thematic units and programs or find picture books on a specific subject. 

Helping Books Connection

An annotated database (fiction & nonfiction) for families and caring adults who wish to use literature to assist children of all ages with common problems and feelings of growing up such as honesty, death, anger, love, adoption, gangs to name just a few.

Theme Bag Ideas

Featured in September 2002 School Library Journal, this site has a "slew of great ideas for 'story sacks'." Site created by a homeschool teacher. Great planning tool for other homeschoolers and for busy librarians.

ALA's CIPA Web Site
American Library Association's website about the Federal Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA) and the Neighborhood Internet Protection Act (NCIPA). This site includes the full text of the legislation, Questions and Answers, information about the ALA's litigation and other resources.
   

ALSC: Association for Library Service to Children
Includes many useful links for youth services librarians, including award sites, sites for kids, and sites for parents.

Just for Kids
Great links on librarianship, resources for teachers, links to collection development information and more from the Western Massachusetts Regional Library System.

The Booklist Center

A list of lists. A retired librarian has compiled bibliography after bibliography of award-winning books and book lists of many organizations. Booklists can be displayed by categories or alphabetical order. The What's New section notes the exact date that lists updated.
