Outreach Services: Equipment

There are many different types of equipment that are available for loan from the outreach department for use by member libraries and facilities.

TTY (Teletypewriter for persons with hearing/speech disabilities) TTY kits are available for loan to individuals, libraries, or organizations.  The kits contain the TTY machine and accessories, an instruction book and video, and other information of interest.  To borrow a TTY kit, ask your librarian for a "TTY Loan Request Form".
NYS Talking Book & Braille Library STLS is a sub-lending agency of the New York State Talking Book and Braille Library  that provides audio players and books and periodicals on tape to persons who are unable to read due to visual or physical disabilities.  Please note that broken machines can be returned to STLS through your local library for replacement.  Applications for this service are available at your library or by contacting Roseanna Harris
Adaptive Computing Equipment STLS has adaptive trackballs, large print and braille keyboards, and a touch pad for loan to assist individuals with various disabilities using computers.  In addition, there are two software products, Zoomtext and Dragon Naturally Speaking, loaded on a laptop, that can be borrowed to try these specialized software packages.  For more information or to arrange a loan, contact Kathy Burns.
Slide Projector and Cassette Player STLS has two slide projector/cassette player sets available for loan to those borrowing the Remembering (Bi-Folkal) kits. This equipment must be requested by checking the appropriate box on the "A/V Request form" at the time the kit is requested.  STLS does not have a screen available.
