Just over a year ago, I presented some information on MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) and how they fit in the public library’s efforts to promote continuous learning (a related blog article is available here). A more recent development in this area is the availability of a Facilitator Handbook for Learning Circles (https://www.p2pu.org/assets/uploads/learning_circle_downloads/facilitator_handbook.pdf) created by Chicago Public Library and Peer 2 Peer University (with support from the Knight Foundation News Challenge). The guide defines learning circles as “lightly-facilitated study groups for learners who want to take freely available online courses together, in-person”.
The facilitator guide includes:
A getting started checklist
Some suggested online course platforms
Tips for facilitators
Templates for flyer and certificate of achivement
More information on Learning Circles is available on Peer 2 Peer University’s website at https://www.p2pu.org/en/.
