Library Director

Wayland Free Library, Wayland

The Wayland Free Library is searching for a Director.  It is a thriving rural library in the Finger Lakes region of upstate NY and is centrally located between Rochester and Corning, NY. The Director manages a library with an annual budget of $190,000 and annual circulation of approximately 24,000 items.

The Library Director plans, organizes, directs and is responsible for the operations and activities of the library within the parameters of NYS law and the library’s policies. The Library director oversees and evaluates the development and execution of educational and cultural programs, collection development, the supervision and development of staff & volunteers, and the care of the library’s facility and grounds. In addition, grant writing and technology skills are needed.  The director recommends policies and goals to the Library Board of Trustees. The person in this position must be a positive and flexible individual who enjoys working with people of all ages and backgrounds, has outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, and will provide leadership as the administrative branch of the library’s governance, with proven success in supervision, community outreach, and technology integration.

An MLS or MLIS degree from an accredited graduate program with supervisory experience is preferred. However, a Bachelor’s degree with supervisory experience in a related field will be considered. Library Director

Almond 20th Century Club Library, Almond

The Almond 20th Century Club Library is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented individual to fill the role of Library Director. The Library Director will report to the Board of Trustees and is responsible for:

  • Collection development and management
  • Planning and implementing community programming
  • Working with the Board to create and balance budgets
  • Writing grants
  • Management of support staff
  • General library care and upkeep
  • Other duties, as assigned

Minimum qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree or some college or minimum of three years professional experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google products, and general computer skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service
  • Experience working with children
  • Strong organizational and communication skills

This 25-hour/ week position includes evening and Saturday hours. Pay starts at $16.00/ hour, with a raise at the successful completion of a three-month probationary period. This position includes 42 annual hours of paid time off, and six paid holidays. Library Director –

Job Overview

The Library Director serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the library. They will manage library operations and supervise library staff. Prepare annual budget for the library in consultation with the board. Promote the mission of the library within the community. Attend meetings & training with the library board, Southern Tier Library System & Directors of Allegany County Library Association.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Daily correspondence ie. Emails & mail.
  • Attend board, STLS meetings & training.
  • Prepare annual budget and adhere to approved yearly budget.
  • Checking in & discharging of patron material – books, dvds.
  • Purchase of all library materials including books, dvds, cleaning supplies, office supplies.
  • Researching & acquiring funding thru grants, fundraising & donations.
  • Programming for adults, teens & children.

Reports To

The Library Director will report to the Library Board of Trustees.
