ILS Specialist – Part Time

Southern Tier Library System, Painted Post

The Southern Tier Library System is accepting applications for the position of Part Time ILS Specialist. The library system seeks an energetic candidate with a vision for 21st century library practices, and a passion for providing meaningful services to 48 member libraries within a team-based cooperative library system environment.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

This is a part time level 3 position, working under the direct supervision of the ILS & Technical Services Manager. This position is responsible for providing and maintaining bibliographical access to the STLS databases, providing support to ILS-related activities and training member library and System staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Associates degree, relevant library experience, or equivalent combination of training and experience sufficient to perform duties of the position.

Accounting Manager – Part Time

Southern Tier Library System, Painted Post

Southern Tier Library System is accepting applications for the position of Part Time Accounting Manager. The library system seeks an energetic candidate with a passion for providing administrative and accounting support services in a professional, high functioning office environment that supports the work of forty-eight public libraries across a five-county area.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

This is a level 4 part time, non-exempt, professional position serving in a leadership role within the Division of Library Sustainability. The Accounting Manager provides support to library system administration relative to all aspects and approaches of accounting, budgeting, reporting, insurances, and elements of human resources. Areas of specialization include: accounting software, accounts payables & receivables, payroll, reporting (local, state and federal), independent audits, organizational insurances, NYS pension and retirement accounts. The Accounting Manager reports to the Executive Director and oversees the work of the Account Clerk.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field, or Associates degree with relevant accounting experience or equivalent combination of training and experience sufficient to perform duties of the position.

Library Director – Full Time

Library Aide, Programming, PR and Circulation – Part Time

Hornell Public Library, Hornell

The Hornell Public Library is accepting applications for the position of Library Aide responsible for Programming, PR and Circulation, approximately 29.5 hours per week.

Summary of Position

The Library Aide in this position plans and implements library programs for children, teens and adults and contributes to the daily operation of the library, performing circulation tasks as required for the successful operation of a library committed to community service and outreach.

Duties

  • Helps establish and maintain a high patron service performance standard. 
  • Assists library patrons in their use of the library.
  • Performs a full range of circulation desk duties including but not limited to issuing library cards, checking materials in and out, reserving books, and preparing materials for interlibrary loan.
  • Assists in training and supervising volunteers and student workers, and assigns appropriate tasks to maintain operations.
  • Keeps the collection properly organized through proper shelving and shelf reading.
  • Plans, implements, and evaluates programming to meet community needs and provide cultural, educational, and recreational programs for children, teens and adults including summer reading initiatives for children, teens, and adults. 
  • Works with community experts, coaches, mentors, and community members to build partnerships and provide relevant programs to the community.
  • Produces posters, bulletins, displays and other publicity to promote library services and programs. 
  • Utilizes technology to communicate with community and patrons about programs. 
  • Participates and attends workshops to maintain knowledge and stay abreast of current trends in library programming. 
  • Recommends materials for acquisition based on program and patron needs.
  • Works on special projects and additional duties as assigned by the Library Director.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Knowledge of digital library platforms preferred (i.e., Libby/ Overdrive), but not required.
  • Working knowledge of Social Media platforms and WordPress
  • Tact, courtesy, and enthusiasm in dealing with members of the public.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required.

Minimum Education, Training, and Experience

  • Minimum of Associate’s Degree preferred.
  • Library experience is not required, but preferred. 
  • Training provided on the job.
