So you have a website that someone else designed or set up for you and you just wish it looked more like you know it could look? That’s where Kim Graham, Wimodaughsian Library’s Senior Clerk found herself. Last month, STLS offered three digital literacy workshops for member libraries as part of the Expanding Community Education through Libraries (ExCEL) program. Kim took advantage of the last workshop in the series – ExCEL: Website Builder. The Canisteo library community and we at STLS are all pretty glad she did.

Kim’s recommendations for libraries feeling stuck with a WordPress site that they know doesn’t live up to its potential include:
* Know what you want to put on your website
* Browse and preview the WordPress themes
* Find the best to fit all the things you want on there

Kim learned about widgets and themes, how they work and how to use them to increase the power of your web presence, at the ExCEL workshop. She’ll also be sharing what she learned in the Canisteo community this year. STLS will be hosting two more Website Builder workshops this fall – look for info in late August.

Did you know that STLS is hosting a Member Library Program calendar? Currently, the following libraries have their events automatically feeding the Member Library Program calendar (listed by location): Canisteo, Cohocton, Cuba, Dundee, Fillmore, Friendship, Hammondsport, Hornell, Savona, Watkins Glen, Wayland, and Wellsville. If you would like your library listed as part of this calendar, check out the three short and shorter videos in the STLS Website Tools playlist.
