A new publication entitled Public Libraries Informational Brief: Impact of Public Libraries on Students and Lifelong Learners demonstrates the importance of public libraries for all New Yorkers: “Public libraries serve as cornerstones for communities across New York State for accessing information and technology, developing digital literacy skills, and providing numerous support services to students, families, and communities. For generations, public libraries have offered critical services to address the needs of all learners.”
Author James Patterson tells parents to join the GET-YOUR KIDS-READING movement with ideas for parents and suggestions of books for kids to read. Check out the SCARE YOUR KIDS INTO READING booklist for Halloween! This booklist is accompanied by videos of scary stories told by librarian, Starr LaTronica. Ms. LaTronica also offers tips to parents on how to tell stories (scary and otherwise) to their kids.

Saturday, October 20th Almond Library celebrated its 100th birthday with historical reenactments, presentations by Senator Young and Curt Crandall, Chair of the Allegany County Legislature and food and activities for residents of all ages.
