Measuring the Impact of Library Services

I recently sat in a on a conference call in which one of the topics of discussion was Project Outcome. I would like to provide a few details with regards to this new initiative from the Public Library Association.

What is it?

Project Outcome is a tool that helps public libraries understand and share the impact of library services and programs. It is managed by the Public Library Association and funded by a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

What is available?

It provides simple survey instruments to collect data from library users, as well as information on best practices for collecting, analyzing and sharing the data. Survey topics include: Early Childhood Literacy, Summer Reading, Civic/Community Engagement, Job Skills, Economic Development, Education/Lifelong Learning and Digital Learning.

What is the benefit?

It provides a means for accessing the impact of library services on the community.

How do I access it?

Project Outcome is available at https://www.projectoutcome.org/ (you will need to sign up for an account).
