Dear Member Libraries,

I am pleased to announce STLS has secured $16,307 in grant funds through two different agencies to provide learning opportunities for member librarians and trustees in 2015.
The Corning Incorporated Foundation has awarded STLS $10,000 to provide Staff and Trustee Development training.

Training for Trustees will include:
1. Policy Development
2. Financial Management
3. Fundraising and Financial Campaigns
4. Legal Issues and Support
5. IT Planning

Training for Librarians will include:
1. Digital Literacy for Librarians
2. Social Media, PR & Marketing Services
3. IT Planning & Implementation
4. Grant Writing Fundamentals
5. Budgeting with Library Trustees

Additionally, the South Central Regional Library Council has awarded STLS $6,037 to implement it’s ExCEL Program – Expanding Community Education through Libraries.

ExCEL will better the lives of New Yorkers by increasing our public libraries’ capacity to serve the digital literacy needs of their communities. Participating directors will attend full day workshops where in they practice valuable technology skills and leave with a written program to give at their home library. Participants will also be invited to choose a mentor from within our library system. The mentor-mentee relationship is helpful for someone transitioning into new territory who might need the extra tips and tricks provided by an experienced mentor.
STLS looks forward to providing these fantastic programs free of charge to our member libraries. We will be certain to provide you with information and key dates, so your libraries can take advantage of these new opportunities.

As always, thank you for your continued support and many efforts.

Kindest Regards,

Brian M. Hildreth, Executive Director
Southern Tier Library System
