2014 Library Superheroes on their way home from Albany. I will never forget this group of diehards, as it was my first time leading Advocacy Day for Southern Tier Public Libraries. So excited to be leading our 2015 Library Superheroes, Margo Gustina, Pauline Emery, Sarah Collins, Susan McGill, Alex Andrasik, Barb Radigan, Don Radigan, Cecily Hardy, Michelle LaVoie, Pat Silvernail, Ron Shaw and Ann Hayes.

“They have given up time away from work, family, friends and everything else that matters to them because they believe somewhere deep down inside that Southern Tier public libraries make a difference. They believe the work you are doing at this very moment is meaningful!

Hello STLS Member Libraries:At 6:00 am this morning, more than a dozen Library Superheroes from the Southern Tier’s five counties took flight to Albany. The eight-hour, round trip journey will conclude at 9 pm this evening in Painted Post. The reason I have coined the term “Library Superheroes” for these individuals is because superheroes are what they are. Our STLS library advocates comprise of directors, trustees, librarians, volunteers, community members, and patrons. They are good community folk doing what is in the best interest of their local public libraries.Advocacy Day for Southern Tier Public Libraries isn’t easy. It is fun, but not easy. First, it requires getting up early. Some of our superheroes are from Allegany County, which means a 4:30 am wake up time. Second, it means getting home late. No dinner or bedtime routine with the family. Third, it equals eight-hours on the road. Although we spend most of our time talking, reading or listening to music, eight-hours on the bus is exactly what it sounds like. Lastly, miles of walking and climbing steps are required. The average Library Superhero will walk or climb two miles today. So here is my shtick… These amazing people have sacrificed a day of their life for your cause. They have given up time away from work, family, friends and everything else that matters to them because they believe somewhere deep down inside that Southern Tier public libraries make a difference. They believe the work you are doing at this very moment is meaningful! As we make are way along I-86 and I-88, please take 5 minutes to contact our Elected Officials (click here to contact them now). Let’s make Advocacy Day count for Southern Tier public libraries. Tell them your library and library system deserve adequate resources to improve the quality of life for our residents. We have 48 member library outlets across STLS. Our goal is for 2 members from each library to contact Elected Officials today. STLS staff knows how much I enjoy reviewing Constant Contact data, so I know all STLS staff and trustees are making the effort today. We look forward to sharing pics and stories from our journey.Sincere gratitude,Brian M.
