Join the Maker Movement

Along with the fabulous array of guest speakers at this year’s Annual Meeting & Conference, STLS will be hosting a “Maker space”. Maker spaces (also referred to as creation spaces, fab labs, hacker spaces, etc.) are DIY spaces that provide the opportunity for people to gather together to create and learn. For more information on the Maker movement, I recommend the following Library Journal article: http://lj.libraryjournal.com/2015/07/public-services/meet-your-maker-maker-movement/#_.

As well as providing information and ideas for a Maker program at your library, we will be showcasing a 3D printer (see below for a video preview). If you have not already registered for the STLS Annual Meeting & Conference, you can do so at: http://www.stls.org/2015annualmeetingconference/.

Another opportunity to learn more about Maker spaces is the Barnes and Noble Mini Maker Faire (http://www.barnesandnoble.com/h/makerfaire), which runs November 6-8 (thanks to Linda Reimer from SSCL for making me aware of this event).
